October 22 - 29: Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Retreat

jaThere is a rare and exciting retreat experience coming up. Our Kumu Maka'ala Yates will be joining us for our lomi week. As many of you have heard me say, anytime you can sit at the feet of a master, take the opportunity. Kapua and I will be co-teaching Mana Lomi level one, and Mana Lomi 'ili will Kumu. We are honored to share this time with him. I hope you can make it.

We invite you to join us for a 7 day intensive covering Lomi Level one advanced Techniques and Lomi 'ili (hot stone therapy). We teach a style of lomi lomi developed by Native Hawaiian, Dr. Maka’ala Yates from his extended training with Hawaiian Kupuna (elders) including the late Aunty Margaret Machado. We follow in the lineage of Big Island Style Lomi which is very therapeutic, specific work for addressing injury. It is structural lomi incorporating concepts of Hawaiian spirituality, meditation techniques, and indigenous values. We begin with 3 days of Mana lomi level one. During this time you will learn a full body technique, ho'oponopono (Hawaiian philosophy of spiritual alignment), history of lomi lomi, and ancestral teachings that support this art form.

Mid-week, we embark on a ½ day excursion touring sacred energetic sites on the island. On this tour we will explore Hawaiian plant medicine, perform a ritual cleansing both at the mountain stream and at the ocean while visiting sacred Heiau (Hawaiian Temples).

The last 3 days we learn lomi 'ili. In this style of hot stone therapy, heated implements are used as working stones on the body and are an extension of our hands. We go to a peaceful agricultural valley on the east side where we learn to gather stones ceremonially with a gathering chant. This allows us the incredible opportunity to give back to the community we are gathering from by working in the taro patch there.

We close the class on the last day with a Hawaiian awa ceremony and graduation celebration. We hope you can join us. If you are interested in registering, please contact us. There is limited space in each class to nurture individualized instruction. The cost is $1150 for the instruction and $45 per person per night plus tax for shared accommodations. Accommodations are optional. There are kitchens in all of the rooms, so you can all cook together if you wish. You will need to arrange your arrival for the day before class begins, Thursday the and your return flight after the evening of the last day of class which is the following Friday.
